Rubber Ramp Sizes: Every Rise, Width and Depth We Make

Black recycled rubber threshold ramp, handmade in Epping

Every rubber ramp we sell is named by three numbers: width, depth and rise. Once you know your step height, picking the right one takes about a minute. This guide lists every standard size we make in our Epping workshop, so you can find yours without guessing.

Quick answer

Measure the height of your step in millimetres. That’s the rise. Our standard rubber threshold ramps come in rises from 15mm to 160mm in 5mm steps, in 900mm or 1000mm widths, with a 1:8 or 1:10 slope. For taller steps there’s a steeper 1:5 ramp from 110mm to 200mm. If your step is between sizes, go up to the next one. Every ramp comes in five colours: Black, Cream, White, Terracotta and Brown.

How to read a ramp size

A size like 900mm W × 240mm D × 30mm R means:

  • W (width): how wide the ramp is across the doorway.
  • D (depth): how far it reaches out from the step. This is the floor space you need.
  • R (rise): the height it climbs. Match this to your step.

The depth comes from the slope. A 1:8 ramp is 8 times longer than it is high, and a 1:10 ramp is 10 times longer. So a 30mm rise is 240mm deep at 1:8 and 300mm deep at 1:10.

1:8, 1:10 or 1:5?

  • 1:10 is the gentlest slope. It’s the best choice for someone pushing their own wheelchair or using a walker, if you have the floor space.
  • 1:8 is the everyday doorway ramp. It’s still easy to roll up and takes about 20% less floor space than 1:10.
  • 1:5 is steep. It suits taller steps where there isn’t room for anything longer, and it works best with a helper or a powered chair.

A 1:10 ramp uses more rubber than a 1:8 of the same height, so it costs a little more. Black is the lower-priced colour on most sizes.

900mm or 1000mm wide?

900mm suits most standard house doors. Choose 1000mm for wider frames, mobility scooters, or double doors with one side open. The ramp should be at least as wide as the clear door opening.

My step is between two sizes

Go up to the next size. A ramp that’s a few millimetres higher than the step sits flush. One that’s lower leaves a small lip, which is the thing you’re trying to get rid of. If your step is an odd height, uneven across the doorway, or taller than 200mm, we can make a custom rubber ramp to your measurements.

Not sure? Send us a photo

Take a photo of the step with a tape measure standing against it and call (03) 7073 2121 (Mon–Fri 8am–4pm) or send it through our contact page. We’ll tell you which size fits. You can also order a free rubber sample to feel the material first. Our guide How to measure for a door threshold ramp walks through it step by step.

Common questions

What is the smallest rubber ramp you make?

Our straight rubber ramps start at a 15mm rise. The side-wing ramp starts at 10mm.

What is the tallest standard rubber ramp?

The 1000mm 1:5 ramp goes up to a 200mm rise. The 900mm 1:8 and 1:10 ramps go up to 160mm.

How much floor space does a ramp need?

Multiply the rise by 8 for a 1:8 ramp, by 10 for 1:10, or by 5 for 1:5. A 50mm step needs 400mm of floor at 1:8 and 500mm at 1:10. Leave some flat ground past the end of the ramp too.
