Rubber Shower Base or Hobless Shower: Which Is Right for You?

Black recycled rubber shower base with drain, made to measure

A step into the shower is one of the most common trip hazards at home. There are two main ways to deal with it: rebuild the shower as a hobless (step-free) shower, or lay a rubber shower base over the shower you already have.

Hobless tiled shower

The shower floor is rebuilt with a fall to the drain, so there is no step at all. It looks great, but it is a renovation: demolition, waterproofing, tiling and drying time. It is the right choice if you are redoing the bathroom anyway.

Rubber shower base

We make it to the exact length and width of your shower, and it lies flat on the floor you already have. You do not need tools, fixings or a builder. It supports up to 300kg and comes in five colours. It suits renters, anyone who needs a safer shower soon, or anyone who does not want builders in the house.

Which one is right for you?

  • You own the home and plan to renovate: look at a hobless shower.
  • You need it sorted quickly, or you rent: a rubber shower base.
  • A funding body is paying: both can be covered as home modifications, so check with your plan manager or aged care provider.
